My OBGYN sent me to a Lab to give blood for my STD and HIV tests, how long till I receive my results? |
Who will be giving me the results? The lab or my Doctor? Over the phone or in the mail? About how long does it take to receive them because I gave blood 3 full weeks ago!! Your lab results should be back by now. Keep in mind, no news in good news. If something is positive the Dr I work for will call the person and have them come in to "discuss their lab results". First thing Monday morning, call the Dr office and ask about them. The results will go directly to the Dr that ordered them, the lab will not be able to tell you anything about them. Most hospitals like kaiser won't give you the lab results over the phone nor your medical online account because lab results that are for HIV AND STD's/STI's are confidential. You will either have to call over the phone to get your results by talking to your doctor.. so I suggest you call your doctor and ask for results.. but also, sometimes, some doctors don't call because they don't see anything wrong..if there was something bad, they would call you IMMEDIATELY.. but I still would call the doctor just to be on the safe side. Gonorrhea and chlamydia take about 2 days. HIV few days. Viral cultures (if taken to check for herpes) may take 4 days. HPV takes 3-4 days at least (women only). |
