I am required to provide any information if my HIV result is positive?

If my HIV test result come out to be positive am I required to provide any further information about my sexual partners or that sort of thing

It depends on the area you live in.

Contact tracing after a positive test result is very common. Depending on the public health laws in your area, it may be required. It involves coming up with a list of sexual and injection drug using partners in the past. You can contact them yourself, or have the public health worker contact them (they will not give your name).

If the test you did was anonymous, contact tracing may not be required, though it is always recommended.

To find out, call your local health unit or HIV testing location and ask what you would be required to disclose if you tested HIV+.

You are supposed to contact people you have been intimate with, and you definitely have to disclose the information before you are intimate with any one else or else it becomes a legal matter, a very serious one at that.
