How soon can I get checked for HIV or any other diseases? Please Help!?

The last time I got checked for HIV was a year ago and have been practicing safe sex then. I currently am dating someone for about a month now and we are not using any safety methods but am starting to worry. How soon can I get tested? Just worried coz I dont really know her that well.

Most HIV tests are antibody tests that measure the antibodies your body makes against HIV. It can take some time for the immune system to produce enough antibodies for the antibody test to detect and this time period can vary from person to person. This time period is commonly referred to as the 鈥渨indow period鈥? Most people will develop detectable antibodies within 2 to 8 weeks (the average is 25 days). Even so, there is a chance that some individuals will take longer to develop detectable antibodies. Therefore, if the initial negative HIV test was conducted within the first 3 months after possible exposure, repeat testing should be considered 3 months after the exposure occurred to account for the possibility of a false-negative result. Ninety seven percent will develop antibodies in the first 3 months following the time of their infection. In very rare cases, it can take up to 6 months to develop antibodies to HIV.

Another type of test is an RNA test, which detects the HIV virus directly. The time between HIV infection and RNA detection is 9-11 days. These tests, which are more costly and used less often than antibody tests, are used in some parts of the United States.

You can get tested any time, but with HIV they also urge that you get tested in 6 months as that is the window in which virus can appear if you're most worried about that, as for the other diseases they can test you anytime.

But you should think of this, if you don't really know her that you should always be using safety methods--- STDs, Pregnancy, Infections--- all these things should be reason enough if it's only been a month and you don't want saddled with a lifetime of regret.

There are several options, some are better the others and I will list them from best to "not so best".
1. Go to your doctor and ask him to give you a complete STD screening including an HIV test.
2. Go to the Health Department for what ever county you live in and ask for the same thing. Here, you can usually get it done for free, and they will also supply you with some condoms if you ask.
3. Go to your local drug store and purchase a "Home HIV Screening Kit", they are usually around 60 bucks or so, follow the instructions, if you get a positive result go to YOUR doctor and have it confirmed. This home kit will not screen for other STDs, which you should be screened for as well if you are concerned about HIV.

Get tested immediately. Practice safe sex. If you don't know her that well why aren't you practicing safe sex? Being involved in a monogamous relationship is the only reason not to practice safe sex.Even then I would get checked every so often

HIV tests used to show after a window period of 3 months. I don't know if new tests have been developed. For other STD,s go immediately. Why aren't you practicing safe sex. That is really a stupid thing to do.

HIV takes about two to four weeks to show up in a blood test. So, I'd say it's about time to go get one done.
