HIV testing Question.. is elisa test accurate after ten years?

Hello. I have not had unprotected sex in over a year. I recently tested negative with an elisa test through lab corp. my question is... the only real risky encounter i had was ten years ago... (unprotected sex) with a person who is RUMORED to be hiv positive... I am concerned because if i had been infected ten years ago.. would my body still make the Antibodies needed to show on the test. Could my immune sytem be so broken down that the elisa test is no longer valid. Any help by anyone knowledgable in this field would be great. People at testing site said i was okay but just need second opinion. Thanks to all

carl~

sounds like you are negative!!! here is why. ELISA tests are very effective in detecting HIV, even early HIV infection. after 10 years, i would absolutely SHOCKED if your body wasn't infested with antibodies detectable on any test..... not to mention, you would be sick as hell. ELISA tests even detect other diseases.... trust me, they are very effective.

if you are still worried, hop on over to any clinic and just get another test. but, i have to say, my opinion is that you are in the clear.

all my best!

I'm not a doctor, but I have educated myself about HIV!

First of all the Antibodies for HIV (only if you are infected), will show within 3-6 months of being infected. If you were infected that means this test you took would of showed up POSITIVE!

If this is true what you're saying about your test, that means you're NEGATIVE! But if you're still unsure go to one of the free clinics and take the HIV test there.

God Luck and always protect yourself with a condom! Trust no one! People look nice and clean on the outside, but on the inside they could be deadly!

10 years!! HELLO yes for sure, the antibodies show up BEFORE 3 months..Check the cdc website the average is 25 days..you are fine
