Alright guys let me talk to you give you all a bit about myself I鈥檓 25 I鈥檓 a black female鈥?well educated and I鈥檓 a virgin鈥reat! I鈥檝e been in a relationship with a guy none sexual for a couple of months (I鈥檓 a teacher and he is a health advocate for teens) he鈥檚 from Africa he travels to and from Africa constantly (resides in Africa) any who, I know we will soon get intimate鈥?but before we do he will be going along with me to take an HIV test and its not because he is from Africa鈥?its because I love myself鈥? When I was in college I kissed a guy and we were about to have sex after that scare I took an HIV test鈥?you may ask 鈥渨hy are you so scared?鈥?Well, three of my cousins died from the HIV/AID epidemic and I saw them fade away鈥?so I don鈥檛 play around with my body鈥?but when we do decide that we want to have sex what HIV test will be good/ accurate to take(swab or shot)(rapid test or the test that take a week to get back)? And will you suggest we wait the second six week period, get another test鈥?get the results before we think about having sex officially?

ELISA

Hi!

Let me congratulate you for being aware of the risks. If only halp the people were like you, so much pain could be spared.

You are absolutely right and your future bf/partners should be okay with that.
Most people are of "just" getting pregnant. Don't think about std's, forget hiv...
I reckon the blood test is very accurate, but you can always ask to be sure.

Best wishes! =)

get it done now, go to the doctors and ask them to test. The results wont change between now and when you have sex, unless you have sex or share contaminated needles or receive contaminated blood products in the meantime.

good luck, i wish you well.

stop worrying!!! not everyone gets hiv and dies from having sex!!
its good that you want to be safe, but one hiv test will be sufficent! Hiv test is not with swab, they take your blood, and it gets sent off, and yes it does takes weeks for the results!

You'll be fine!!

Here is a website that should answer most of your questions

Its good that your having the test done, more lives would be saved if others did as well.

Wow you are well deticated that is good sorry for my spelling I am not much good at that, but I think that you will be fine you seem very smart. Good luck I hope very thing goes well

I'm 16 and i'm not a virgin!

You probably seem a little obsessed to some people, but I think that it's very wise of you to be on your guard. Unfortunately you had to learn from others' mistakes, but at least their illness had a positive impact on your life.
As far as the options available to you, you should ask your Doctor or the Nurse administering the test.
I think that it's great that you have the strenght and willpower to plan things out so that you're at minimal risk. Keep it up... it's worth the peace of mind in the long run.

I want to add some comments here. For HIV test to be conclusive, you have to wait 3 months and get tested after possible unprotected sex. That means even your boyfriend and you are tested negative today, it does not mean you do not have HIV. It is possible that your boyfriend had sex during the last 3 months and the anti-bodies are still not detectable in his blood. But if you are 100% sure that he did not have ANY sexual activities during the past 3 months and he is tested negative, then he is negative period.
My suggestion to you would be to ALWAYS USE PROTECTION. If you are protected, then you are protected and there is no worry about HIV. Always use condoms and use lots of water-base lubricant and you will be fine.

Rapid test is accurate. There are reported cases of false positive and if that happens, it has to be confirmed by another test that usually takes longer.
