Help please!! Should I wait to take the tests? |
Hi about three months ago, I lost my virginity to this guy who kinda only used me for sex. He seems like he's been with a lot of girls, we used protection and it seemed like he had no symptoms of stds (yeah i know sometimes they wont show up for a long time). I went to the gynecologists and she said everything looked normal. She did a swab test and I was negative for chlamydia and ghonnerhia. I want to do tests for other stds but I am TERRIFIED of needles. So my question is should I wait for another annual gyno exam to get them done? The reason I ask is that I know stds like HIV can take 6 months to should up in your blood. Also, I leave for Europe in 2 weeks, so if I do get them done, will that be enough time? Thanks!! Test in 6 weeks for HIV will give you a very good indication about your status as MOST people generate antibodies by this time BUT it is not conclusive. When you get your negative result in 6 weeks, then you have to confirm it by 3 months after your exposure. 3 months is conclusive. As you already passed the 3 months period, your result at this point will be conclusive. No doubt about that. "After the original infection, it takes between 2 weeks and 6 months for antibodies to HIV to appear in the blood." The antibodies to HIV take six weeks, not six months. Go get tested. Chances are you're clean but put your mind at ease before you go to Europe. Explain your situation to the obgyn and get tested. get it done in 3 mos |
