Is it standard procedure to test for hiv and othe viral diseases during pregnacy?

i saw that movie 'girl posi+ive' on lifetime, it really freaked me out about stds lol i had a daughter 4 months ago, and decided to not engage in sex (my baby is my birth control lol) but i wanted to know if i was already tested for hiv and hep and other viral diseases when they withdrew blood during my pregnacy???

I believe it is. I was tested for every possible thing under the sun including stds, blood type, toxoplasmosis, and to see if you're a carrier for any diseases at my first prenatal visit. If your tests came back negative, then no one would say anything to you about the tests. If the tests came back positive for anything, you would know it because the doctors would want to do everything they could to make sure that your condition or whatever didn't affect the baby as well as to start you on appropriate treatments..

Yes it is stand practice, all pregnant women are tested for all the major std's. They need to be aware of any condition like HIV to minimise it passing on to the baby during birth etc, and also so doctor's know etc to take extra precautions for their own health and safety when delivering a baby that they do not come into contact with any blood in case of infection.
If they found anything you would of found out at the time, so relax you got the clear.

I think the blood tests for STD's are standard procedure but you have to sign a release to be tested for HIV/AIDS. I didn't think there was a real chance of me being positive, but if they're offering and taking blood anyway, of course it's always better to know!

Everything was A-okay, but if they do detect it they can take certain precautions that make it less likely for the baby to contract it during delivery.

You would have had to sign a paper at the DR's office for the HIV test (atleast I did with mine) but the other tests are just routine including the swab they due during your papsmear to look for some STD's. I know they always say that I am STD free when i get pregnant so they do test for them. With my first pregnancy they said I could get HIV testing if I wanted I said no then with my second son I didn't have much choice because it was a clinic and their policy was all patients had to have it so I signed a release and had it done. With this pregnancy they asked if I wanted it and I said yes and signed a release paper to have it done.

I was tested for everything for both pregnancies. Even though I've been married for 4 years and with my husband for 8 years with no straying from either of us, they do it everytime. I had to sign for the HIV test but the rest was automatic. They didn't tell me they were doing it, I remember looking at my paperwork to take to the lab and std's were some of the things checked off on the paper.

I know that when I went for my prenatal blood work, I was tested for EVERYTHING. I'm talking HIV, Hep A B C, HPV, and all the other things that you can get down there. I'm not sure if its standard procedure with every doctor, but with mine I know it is.

Yea, they tested me twice [I have two OBGYN doctors- and you either see one or the other-] even though I've been with the same guy for a year and a half. And was tested before I ever got pregnant. But they insisted anywayz -.-

uumm... yeah they check for everything that can HARM the baby... And HPV does not harm the baby!! And if anyone feels like disputing the fact that hpv doesn't harm a baby, please feel free to im me!

If they were going to do those tests you would have had to sign consent forms. Usually they are done. You should have your doctors office double check your records to see.

Yes they always test you for stds, and HIV!

I had to sign a form saying it was ok. Yes they did test me for everything.

yes they do.
its standard though so its nothing to worrry about unless the person being tested is promiscuous..
