If someone is diagnosed with hep c would they also test for hiv afterwards?

especially if they were in a high risk group (needle use)

When we have a patient that has elevated liver enzymes, which is an indication there is a problem with the liver, we usually test for many things, including Hep and HIV. We tell them that we are testing for these diseases before it is done. Most people do not have a problem with it. If they have already been diagnosed with Hep C and have a back ground of drug use, yes, we test for HIV

Hep C and HIV are not related in any way, they are two totally different viruses. That being said, if the person you know did needle based drugs they always run the risk of catching any blood born disease especially if they share needles or have unprotected sex.

Hep C is not considered an STD, but HIV is...introveneous drug use is very risky since it can transfer infected blood when needles are shared, which happens a lot.

test for HIV after what. The person should have been tested for everything. If the physician found hepatitis C, other blood work should have been done. Person needs to go to an infectious disease physician.

you should be careful.. even though i dont do anything i still get checked EVERYTIME i go to the docs office.. you never know who you was around that may have had something.. so yes you can never be too sure.. i think that the persoin should.

Although they can both be transmitted via needle exchange, those are two entirely different diseases. So you can have one without the other.

Many doctors will test for HIV when their patient tests positive for Hep C. Especially if they know the person was a needle user.
