My hiv test came back postive but my western blot test came back negitive what does that mean?

so if the western blot comes back negitive why would the HIV test say postive? and what other disease's ect... could make the hiv test come back postive? the doctors still want me to come back in 3months to make sure but i really need to know what the case for this is? thanks

False positives are common in Rapid HIV tests. Usually positive results should be confirmed by ELISA test. When elisa is positive, then it should be confirmed by WB. WB is the most accurate test, which goes inside the cells and never lies. So relax, you are negative. But your doctor has the final word on this. Go for another checkup in 3 months but expect negative result.

At this point, I would consider you "positive" pending further results. Ask your doctors if you should be on prophylaxsis medication.

Abstain from any sexual contacts in this time. Wait until the follow up test.

Your results are inconclusive. False positives and false negatives can happen. This is the reason for the follow up. Just be patient and try to relax (difficult, I'm sure). The time will pass quick and then you'll have an answer.

Good luck!

the western blot test is the most accurate test to be performed. if it came back negative most likely its negative but i would still abstain from any sexual contact with anyone until u have a follow up test done to be certain. just for someone else's safety as well as ur own. this is a serious wake up call for u hunny. be more careful next time.

propably now they checking if u r at window period or not, negative western blot means negative
