Question on Hiv testing?

If I took an hiv test just about a week shy of the three month window period and it came back negative what are the chances that when I go back to test in a month that it will come back positive? The only reason I am asking is because I have a really bad cough and sore throat now and yes, everyone around me is sick so that's probably why I am too, but I just want someone elses opinion on this

More than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months. You probably just have a cold.

Relax.

1) Almost all infected people test positive by 6-8 weeks after exposure.

2) Actually it is exteremley unlikley that your test becomes positive. Probably the same chance you get hit by lightening.

3) Symptoms are NEVER indicators for HIV infection. The reason is that they are not HIV specific only 1% of the people with ARS symptoms (early HIV symptoms) turn out to be positive.

So go back to your question. You do not have HIV. I am sure this reassurance will not calm your nerves. Feel free to go and get tested. But from now you can count on a negative result.

the longer the period between sex and test the more reliable the results.
only you know what your chances of becoming hiv positive are by the type of sex you have and who with.

I would say your chances of it being negative were good.

you're just paranoid. Stop worrying.

go for it, better knowing these kind of things than just guessing. It wont' hurt to get tested.
