Does condoms really work?

My best friends caught HIV, false names Timmy and Maria. Timmy first cheated his Maria with Stephi. He said he had a condom. Maria found out and cheated on him with David but she didn't use a condom. So what happened was Timmy's mom forced him to get test and he came out positive. He thought his girl gave him it, so he forced her to get test and yes she had it. Maria told David he got HIV then Davis decided to get tested and found out he's negative, he got tested 3 time and all came out the same. So he forced Stephi to get tested and she came out positive.

What happened?

It could be a number of things, but besides abstinence, Condoms ARE the number one way to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS if they are used properly.

That being said, let's list the possibilities:

a. You've mentioned a only few names here. Were Timmy and Maria both virgins before they became sexual with one another? It is very possible that either Timmy or Maria could have had the HIV BEFORE they got together. Were they tested prior to their relationship to ensue they were both negative? I going off the assumption that Timmy and Maria had unprotected sex when they were together.

b. Are you SURE no one slept with anyone else? And not saying it? I'm not trying to imply that your friends aren't truthful, but you never know. Did Timmy use a condom at the beginning of the sex with Stephi? Or half way through.

Another thing is that although it only takes one time to become infected with AIDS, generally, there is a higher chance of getting it after repeated contact. Did Stephi and Timmy only sleep together once? I would be led to believe it was more that once, and unprotected, IF she was the intial person infected.

c. Why are you all so sure that it was from sex? HIV is transmited mainly though sex, but there are several other ways of transmission. Look this up, or tell them to.

d. Although condoms ARE very effective, they break, slip off, can possibly have tiny holes, etc. etc.

To be honestly, you will never know. Who had it first isn't the point now, in my opinion. The objective should be how all these people are going to take care of their health from here on out.

In my personal opinion, however, I believe someone had the virus before beginning the relationship. This is not a condemnation, but people shouldn't be "forced" to take an HIV test. It should be a decision one makes for themself - every year - if they know they are sexually active to be responsible for their health.

Condoms work! If Timmy used condoms and it did not break, then he did not have a risk of HIV infection. So probably either Timmy is lying about using condoms OR the condom in fact did break or slipped off.
