Do they test newborns for hiv? can they develop it eventually?

my tests were neg

Newborns are not routinely tested and if the mother is negative, why would her baby be tested?

If you're concerned, speak to your child's pediatrician about the advisability of testing in the future.

Thanks for choosing my answer as the best one. If your child's doctor feels testing is necessary, you'll be told. Report It

what? why would they do that unless the mothers was HIV positive?

Yes they can test for hiv, but they do not do so routinely. One reason is that a child can test positive for the antibodies and not have the disease, if the mother is hiv positive. They get alot of false positives as a result. Best to have all adults tested routinely for hiv, just as they are for cholesterol, diabetes, and anemia.

usually only on request... if you are concerned about this you should have the baby checked and then checked again in 3 months

Yes, and unfortunately yes, I am sorry, but I guess with the new meds out it can help them live a little longer, you poor thing, I am sorry
