About HIV testing..............?

Six months before I have sex with a women .That is not unprotected unfortunately the condum breaks in the middle.Suddenly i stop the sex and remove my penils.after 3 & 6 months i go for a chek up ( HIV 1 & HIV 2 ) the result was H I V -ve .(i dont know that the lady has any problem) . then the Dr. says to me that go for a P24 ANTIGEN Test. That will gave the accurate result.is it the HIV 1 & HIV 2 test is not accurate?
The Dr. says that the HIV 1 & HIV 2 test is not accurate in some time. so the p24 test is good . give me some good openion about this

I would say the Doctor is the person who would know the most current info.

The doctor os not saying that the HIV tests are not accurate......it's just that you cant take a HIV test today and when you get the results they could be negative......then later on down the line you can take it again and it be positive....HIV is still a puzzle in some ways......it attacks your white blood cells and destroys them..,....and so forth that's why it's good to take the test every six months.
But if you still have questions and your primary doctor is not making it clear....maybe you should go and see a hemotologist..( a blood doctor...who deals with disease)
Good luck to you and I hope that this was some help to you .

Your doctor does not know what s/he is talking about.

There is no better or more accurate way to test for HIV than the standard HIV antibody bloodwork (EIA with confirmatory western blot) which is the test you would have taken at 3 and 6 months. The tests are considered accurate at 3 months, and definitely by 6 months.

The p24 antigen blood test is SOMETIMES used as an alternate to HIV RNA testing as it is cheaper, or as an alternative to viral load testing in resource poor countries...here is the catch.....it is 100% specific (so if it says positive, you are positive) but it is only 90% sensitive (which means it can give false negatives approx 10% more than the standard tests.)

p24 antigen tests are NOT TO BE USED TO DIAGNOSE HIV. Again, there is no better or more accurate tests than the standard HIV antibody serology.

Rest assured, from the exposure you were speaking of, followed by NEGATIVE tests at 3 and 6 months.....you did not get infected with HIV from that exposure!!

Take care,
