not knowing your situation, age, sexual activity etc. plays a lot into the answer. also risk factors , unprotected sex and gender preference in sexual encounters. Are you monogamist also.? .. having one partner.. If you think you may be at risk.. discuss with your doctor, request an AIDS testing.. It is first your body, your life.. even if the doctor thinks not.. peace of mind is worth it.. My former husband placed me in the possession of doubt, and 10 years of testing.. I am past the fear now and time to breathe is nice.. Good luck to you.. chose wise choices.. AIDS doesn't have a warning sign on the person who can give it to you.. You, are the only one who can determine how safe you want to be.. It's your life..

Well, it depends on what your blood was tested for.

People generally believe that if they give blood a doctor's office they are being tested for HIV. That is not the case.

In a routine doctor's visit you must consent to having an HIV test performed (Some states allow people admitted to the ER to be tested w/o their consent).

Its possible that you did give consent in one of those many forms that they have you fill out and sigh ahead of time. Call your doc and ask if you are uncertain about what they tested you for.

If your doc did test you for HIV, then you have to think about what possible exposures you had in the 3 months leading up to the test.

Unprotected sex with partners of unknown status is a risk factor. As well as sharing needles with people of unknown status. An HIV test is only accurate when you take into account the last time that you had a risk.

So, if you took the test on a Friday morning and had unprotected sex the week before, you would need to retest at around 12/13 weeks after that last encounter.

And, of course, a negative test does not imply immunity to HIV. Testing negative now does not meant that if you expose yourself to HIV in the future that you will not become infected.
