What are the chances I have herpes?

Just went for a doctor visit after I started getting little red bumps on my penis shaft. There I was tested for HIV, which came back negative. I told her I had cold sores in the past (bad skin + winter time = cold sores for me). When she came back, she said it might HSV-1 or early herpes. Now I've been monogomous with my girlfriend of 9 months and I've only ever had six sexual encounters -- all with condoms until we grew to trust each other.

Now I'm waiting for the test results, which will come back in 1-2 days.

Being exposes to extreme cold weather can trigger out breaks of cold sores around the mouth, which are caused by HSV 1 they are not caused by HIV so no surprise there when your test was negative for HIV. Try getting tested for HSV1 and have the red bumps on your penis tested as well for HSV1 and HSV2.
Genital herpes (HSV2) is usually passed on when you have oral sex with some one that has cold sores or regular sex with some one that has genital herpes. If you or her has had past sexual partners then either of you could have gotten herpes from a past partner. Genital herpes can also be passed on if there are no symptoms and even if condoms are used.
You can get cold sores with out ever having sex or cheating on your partner. All it takes is to kiss some one that has an out break of cold sores or give them oral sex when you have a cold sore. 50-80 percent of the world has them which makes them very common to have so there is a chance that your girl friend could have cold sores too.
Passing oral herpes to the mouth commonly happens during child hood when relatives or friends who have an out break of cold sores kiss children on or around the mouth while they have an out break and don't know any better.
Cold sores are very contagious while there is an out break so don't kiss or give her oral sex until the out break is completely healed and gone. If you give oral when you have a cold sore you can pass them to her genitals.

If your girlfriend has oral herpes as well it is possible it spread from her mouth to your gentials.
