I got my blood taken for STD testing and I got a call from the doctors office saying to come in to the doctor.?

They want me to come back so the doctor can read me my results for STD's and HIV/AIDS. Couldn't they have told me if it was good or bad over the phone? an could this be a bad thing?

Legally, they cannot tell you if you are positive for anything over the phone. They are obligated to give you medicine and counseling. If you were to receive the news you had something over the phone and hurt yourself or someone else because of it - they would be held financially responsible.
There are also the Hippa laws involved so the receptionist that actually made the call has no idea of your medical records.
Don't sweat it, it could be anything. Some places just want to counsel you on the fact that you had unprotected sex.
Good luck, but let this be a lesson about how easy it it to catch something!

It all depends on the office and their policies. Some offices tell you everythings all right over the phone. Some want you to come in for the bad news in person. When I got tested for every STD under the sun, the office policy was that they NEVER gave ANY results over the phone only in person. My guess is two reasons: 1) They get to hit your insurance company up for another office visit charge. 2) In case it's really bad news, they can offer some form of consuling. Don't worry I'm sure they just want to bill for another office visit and give you your results in person. Don't take it as anything more than that. Let us know how you did and relax.

This happened to me a couple of years ago. My boyfriend cheated on me and infected me with gonorrhea. That's when I decided to take an hiv/aids test. About 7 days later they called me and told me I needed to come in. I was screaming through the phone begging them to tell me what it was. They would not tell me. I went to the clinic and I had an abnormal pap smear. They further tested me and I had fibroid tumors. It's not always the "dreaded" news. Please go find out whats wrong. Like the other commenter said, the insurance game is rigged, the more visits, the more money. If you went to a free clinic, they may have some results thats not good but it doesn't have to be hiv/aids

most of the time if your test results come back negative you will not receive a call back you will have to call them....now if you get a call from the doctors then its all big chance something came up on the test.
