Contracting HIV via cunnilingus?

4 weeks ago I engaged in cunnilingus as part of a one night stand (I am a male - performed on a female). What are the risks of HIV contraction, how and when should I get tested, and should I be concerned that I currently have a sinus infection (first time ever)? Sincere and thoughtful advice is much appreciated; please note if you are a medical professional.

"They" say you can't get it that way, but I don't believe them. I think you have to wait a couple months before getting tested. You probably are OK...that being said...

What are you doing going down on a stranger? She can have other things besides HIV, and she's actually more likely to have other things than she is to have HIV. For example, what if she had herpes, and you went down there?

You gotta think, my brother! I never go down on any girl that's not my girlfriend, or I know for a fact we're exclusive and it's been a long minute that we've known each other.

Although HIV can be transmitted through any unprotected sex, including oral sex, risk of HIV transmission through oral sex is very low.

More than 98% of people who have HIV would test positive within 3 months. In very rare cases, it could take up to 6 months for someone to test positive. The standard recommendation is to get tested 3 months after possible exposure, then retest 3 months later.

Testing, which is designed to detect antibodies to HIV, not the virus itself, can be done by blood testing or oral swab. You can check the website hivtest.org to find free testing sites in your area. Just enter your ZIP code.

Not sure where anyone is getting their info...but simply put, the answer is yes. It's possible for you to become infected with HIV while receiving oral sex, but certainly the risk is extremely low. The scenario that would lead to HIV transmission of this sort is very rare and the chance of it occurring is remote.

The earliest test that can detect the virus is the RNA PCR test. Generally, this test can detect the virus within 2 weeks.

You can find a testing facility near you just by typing in your zip code here...

That site also has other great info that you should read up on. :)

Be more careful, mate. I wish you the very best!
