What is the HIV antibody test? What is the AIDS test?

I really don't understand these things. This is the first time i ever heard of these. Help me please?

The HIV antibody test checks your blood for antibodies to the HIV. If you test positive for the antibodies, it means your body has been exposed to the virus, and has made antibodies against it in an attempt to protect itself.

Now, having said that, the antibody test is not perfect. If you test positive for the antibody test, your physician should order a confirmatory test. The most common one is called a Western Blot. The Western Blot actually looks for the virus in your blood, not the antibody.

There is no AIDS test, because AIDS is not an individual disease. Many people use the term "AIDS test" when what they really mean is an antibody test. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which means if you have a conglomerate of signs and symptoms, along with a positive HIV test you are given the diagnosis of AIDS.

Thankfully, in this day and age of highly effective anti-retroviral therapy, being HIV positive is no longer the death sentence it once was. There are many, many people living with HIV..think Magic Johnson.

There really is no Aids test,,,,

Testing positive for HIV and having other symptoms
will get you a diagnosis of Aids

The silly part is The Other symptoms can come from a host of other stuff....

Nothing is all on its own is Aids related...nothing

Not one thing actually links HIV to Aids
You have to have one first then if they see you have other stuff well then its Aids lol

There is a lot of research to do if you realy want the truth
But they do kinda tell on themselves

Have you eve noticed How Aids is never mentioned as a Sexually trasmitted disease in the Pharmasuetical commercials

Its always stated....."Vestiva wont protect you against sexual trasmitted dieseases including HIV"

what about Aids??
Why not include Aids in that statement??...If Aids is sexually transmitted..

Aids anty body test is a test which tells whether u can catch AIDS. medicine to check it is inserted in ur arm ,if sore u are prone to be an AIDS patient otherwise no. AIDS test is the blood test of a person to diagnose whether he is infected with AIDS or not.

HIV antibody tests are specifically designed for routine diagnostic testing of adults; these tests are inexpensive and extremely accurate.
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection results from 1 of 2 similar retroviruses (HIV-1 and HIV-2) that destroy CD4+ lymphocytes and impair cell-mediated immunity, increasing risk of certain infections and cancers. Initial infection may produce nonspecific febrile illness. The risk of subsequent manifestations鈥攔elated to immunodeficiency鈥攊s proportional to the level of CD4+ lymphocytes. Manifestations range from asymptomatic carriage to the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), which is defined by serious opportunistic infections or cancers. HIV infection is diagnosable by antibody or antigen testing. Treatment aims to suppress HIV replication by combinations of drugs that inhibit HIV enzymes.
HIV ELISA/Western blot is a set of blood tests used in the diagnosis of chronic infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The HIV ELISA is a screening test for the diagnosis of HIV infection. If this test is positive, it must be confirmed with a second test called the Western blot, which is more specific and will confirm if someone is truly HIV positive (there are other conditions that may inaccurately produce a positive ELISA test result, including lupus, Lyme disease, and syphilis).

Once your body is infected with a virus, your immune system creates antibodies to try and combat it. The presence of these antibodies is what lets them know that you have a particular virus.
