Is it true that when they test donated blood/plasma for HIV, they test for the actual virus, not antibodies? |
If this is true, why don't doctors test that way. Because there are several tests to test for HIV. no, thats not true. when they test, they are testing to see if your body was producing cells the fight HIV: the antibodies. ELISA is the standard 'screening' test, but confirmation is used using Western Blot. Far more sensitive and is considered the gold standard test. ELISA uses antibodies; western blot uses proteins in the cell. |
