Hiv oral test?

If someone gets tested roughly 3 years after possible exposure. And comes back negative with the oral test. Does this mean that all is ok?Thanks!

Hi there,

Yes it does. No diagnostic test will ever be 100% reliable, but if you test negative at the appropriate time (i.e., 13 weeks after possible exposure to the virus), you can consider that to be a dependable confirmation that you are HIV negative. This further is under the assumption that you have not had unprotected sex since that exposure three years ago.

There is a "window period" which is the time it takes the body to produce antibodies after HIV infection has begun. For the vast majority of those who will test positive, antibodies to HIV will develop within 4-6 weeks after exposure. Some will take a little longer to develop antibodies. To make certain that you receive a reliable test result, it's necessary to wait at least three months (13 weeks) after your last possible exposure to the virus before being tested.

Regardless, anyone who is going to be sexually active and is not in a committed monogamous relationship where both partners have reliably tested negative for all stds should be using fresh latex or polyurethane each time for intercourse. Further, they should also get tested once a year for all stds as part of their regular check up; every 6 months if the behaviours were more risky in nature.

Cheers.

It means you forgot the Trojan man.

I don't know of any oral testing for HIV. The main use of oral testing is for strep throat or DNA analysis. I think you better get a blood test. If you have had no high risk behaviour since the 3 years ago exposure you are in the safe zone meaning it would have tested positive a long time ago.
