What prompts a person to get an hiv test out of the blue? serious answers only?

HIV tests may be of different types.Like the screening tests(SPOT TEST,Easy to do but not confirmatory) or the confirmatory tests(Western Blot).A person will go in for the confirmatory tests when he/she comes out positive in the sceening test,Mind you that person can still be a false positive,so to confirm they goes in for the confirmatory test.To answer your query i would have to say,he/she go for these tests if he/she feels that they might have been exposed to the virus by any of the known modes of transmission.

I think a periodical check is a must, especially if you had, or have, multiple partners. doesn't mean that person has severalaffairs, but sometimes, a close friend or someone who gets HIV prompts you to check yourself. there is also the possibility of needle sharing with a person with probable infection with HIV. When in doubt of the reason, ask, upfront, without confrontational attitude; if there is something hidden, you better find out sooner than later, no?

A broken condom would definitely make me go get an hiv test.

I think that sometimes we tend to live life rather carelessly, especially when we are young, and then at some point in our lives, (when we mature a bit) we rethink that and start to worry about the consequences of our previous actions. HIV is something that a person can have without knowing it for YEARS, and anybody who has voluntarily had sex EVER should know that- or so we'd all like to think.
So, maybe this person is just checking- really. Wouldn't it be awful if he/she has it (from a previous encounter from years ago) and doesn't bother to find out until he/she starts to get sick? The sooner the better, right? Why wait until there's a reason to check? Why not know for sure NOW? I think this person is trying to be responsible. Don't interfere- PLEASE!
By the way, I've heard that if you know you've been exposed to it, you are legally obligated to inform ALL of your "partners"- past and present (and future ones until you know you DON'T have it, which can take a while.)
