Do schools in the United States require HIV test for teachers from Africa?

Do schools in the United States require HIV test for teachers from Africa?

I have no idea.

Considering that, other than by sexual transmission or shared IV needles, a student would be at minimal to negligible risk from an HIV postive teacher, I wouldn't see much need for testing from any kind of medical point of view.

However, from the point of view of eligibility for medical benefits, potential use of sick leave, etc, if I were an educational employer I would require testing for all kinds of communicable diseases--not just HIV.

Your question is somewhat ironic in light of the fact that there are probably many HIV+ teachers in the US as we speak, and many of them don't even know it.

no.

There are a dozen shots that for US visitors that are going to visit Africa. For a teacher to teach in the US or any foreign country, they have to have a general physical and pee in a cup for drug screening often. but a test specifically for HIV? No. It would have to be disclosed to an insurance company if someone knows they have it and wanted to get on the school's insurance plan- but it would not be a school req to get tested specifically. If a teacher from Africa came to the US and was you or teaching your kid: 1 I doubt they have HIV and 2 I am sure the school is knowledgeable and knows if they do have HIV. I wouldn't be surprised if a blood test is part of the screening process for the agencies that help international teachers get jobs. No one is at serious risk from teachers from Africa. Be glad that they want to teach in the US.
