Can a person with HIV lower their viral count so as to appear disease free on an HIV test?

How would a partner be able to protect themselves?
Are there more sensitive tests that will register supressed disease?

unfortunatly no!
after 3 to 6 month of the exposure of hiv the elissa test becomes positive and stays positive all the way.i didnt understand ur last question but if u want more accurate test for hiv there is western blot.
as for protecting ur partner..if u dont have partner i suggest u dont do any sexual contact bec its risky
if u have already a partner u have to make sure that this partner knows ur health status and approves to have sex inspite of that.to remind u its illegal in many countries not to tell ur patner about ur hiv status and still have sex.
u have to use good quality condoms and the ejaculation should b outside even if u are using condom.but this doesnt mean that u can have intercourse without condom and have ejaculation outside...bec high number of the virus come out with secretions b4 ejaculation.never do or have anal sex bec its very risky even with condom.
try ur best to protect ur partner bec if he or she catches hiv u might not b able to forgive urself.
regards

I don't think they'll be able to show up disease free on an HIV test. But otherwise, I think, like Magic Johnson, for the most part, they are symptom free.

You protect yourself by always wearing condoms, and don't touch any bodily fluids.

The ideal viral load is undetectable or under 50, that is considered good, if you take a HIV test and you have the virus, it will show up as you having hiv, as well your T-cells the higher amount you have the better that your immune system is working and the less chance of coming up with an opportunist infection. Your partner, on the other hand abstinence is always best, there is always a chance that a condom might break, or if you are having oral sex, if you have a tear, break, and or a cankor sore and or bleeding of the gums, he is at a much higher risk of getting infected. What would be an ideal situation for your partner would be to have 2 tests spaced 6 months apart and during that time abstain from sex, and then you would be more sure of the results. There is a test out ,and yes it is expensive to have done but for the most part if you have tested positive for HIV, start taking care of your body, because once your t-cells go under 200 you are then considered infected with the AIDS virus. Good Luck to you and your partner, and whom-ever you choose to have sex with be honest about your status, so that they have the right to make the right choice about their life.

Yes - that's what the 'undetectable viral load' means that some HIV inefected people achieve while on drugs. Very few people reduce their viral load to the point where a test will not pick it up, but it is possible. However, the person in question would already know they are positive, so this shouldn't be a problem.

More problematic is that people can pass the HIV virus to a partner before the test shows they are positive - this is a much bigger risk factor.

You should always assume your partner has HIV and act accordingly - always have protected sex until you are in a stable relationship, and ready to have children. There is really no reason, other than trying to get pregnant, to stop having protected sex.
