How do feel about Obama getting AIDS/HIV test in Kenya?

I am proud that he is a political figure representing the U.S. He did more than just speak about tackling the AIDS crisis in Africa he did something very important. By showing Kenyans its OK to be tested. One of the biggest hurdles in fighting the AIDS epedimic in third world countrys is the cultural stigma surrounding the virus , and cultural norms envolving female sexual empowerment, and condemn use.

Why does everything come down to Dem's or Rep.'s. It dosen't matter to me what party he's in if he was a Republican I would still be proud of him.

And as for him not fixing the problems of crime, un-wed parenthood, etc. Why hasn't our president? Since your bringing it up. Make sure you hold him to the same standards.

Why isn't he back in IL getting the inner city crime rate down, unwed mothers off welfare, guns out of the hands of kids, stopping the drug dealing in the US...

EDIT: My President isn't in Africa getting an aids test - he is here in the US saving your butt from terrorists. Obama goes to Africa - kinda goofy if you ask me. Much to do HERE!

He seems to be one of the few politicians out there with integrity. I'm proud to have voted for him in 2004. He keeps saying he won't run for president in 2008. I hope someone changes his mind. Although... I don't envy the task of whoever wins the 2008 presidential election.

i applaude obama for actually doing something about the aids crisis in africa. most politicians just throw money at africa and attach strings to it so the money can rarely be used or not used in an effective way. the bush administration donates money to aids relief but only if it's accompanied by an abstinence first education program. well intentioned but wholely unrealistic. there are such deeper issues like (as you say) stigma of the virus, female empowerment and condum use and access. issues that need to be addressed before the fairy tale abstinence only program uis enforced.

Primarily a POLITICAL junket, although we have seen a lot worse Democrat politicians than Barak Obama. Somebody is prepping him for a run at the White House.

I'd accept Obama a lot sooner than Hillary, but don't want either of them. If it ever HAS to be a Democrat, Joe Lieberman is best.

I agree that Senator Obama's using himself as an example and getting testing for HIV / AIDS in Kenya shows Kenyans it's okay to be tested. But will they respond to an outsider doing such a thing?

I also agree that hurdles in combatting the epidemic in third world countries include ignorance, cultural stigmas and silence. However, it should not be made a feminist issue. The emphasis should be on awareness and education (including condom use).

My question is: "Why did Obama use the public's money to visit his ancestral homeland?"

He should have been in the US working and not taking another vacation. He is just another corrupt politician
