How is a hiv test conducted? |
do you need to pee in a cup or get a needle poked into your skin? You can be tested for HIV through a blood draw or an oral test. They are both highly accurate. An HIV counseling and testing center can do the testing for little or no cost. Most centers have the Ora Quick tests, and you get the results in about 45 minutes. I would recommend a blood test over an oral test since you can be tested for syphilis at the same time with only one blood draw. Urine tests are used to test for Chlamydia and gonorrhea. They usually draw blood. Some labs can also test oral fluid, they just place some cotton in your mouth for a few minutes and test the saliva for antibodies (saliva does not contain the virus, just the antibodies!). The blood test is considered more accurate. I had one recently done and they drew blood but i had them test for everything while i was at it. Did it at planned parenthood cost me $200. You can always do the mail order one too if you want to be annoymous or just give them a fake name when you go into the doc's ofc and pay in cash. They stick a tube in your vagina they take alot of blood.. |
