How accurate the HIV test after 48 hrs exposure?

If you were exposed to HIV two days ago, an HIV test will **NOT** be accurate. HIV has a long incubation and period to seroconversion (time it takes before HIV takes hold and can be detected by testing).

However, if you have a really strong reason to believe you were exposed to HIV 48 hours ago, please see a doctor and tell him/her. You may be able to get post-exposure prophylaxis. It's like a "morning-after pill" to prevent HIV from taking hold in your body.

PEP is *serious* stuff, so you should not take it if you simply had unprotected sex with a person who is a fairly low-risk partner. However, if you know you shagged someone with HIV and either you neglected to use a condom or the condom broke, or you were sharing needles with a HIV+ drug user or juicer, then you would be a better candidate for PEP.

See your doctor ASAP.
