HIV test conducted 3 years after the suspected infection, is it valid?

I had unsafe sex in 2004 n again in April, 2005. I have been sexually inactive ever since. Two weeks ago, I had ELISA test and came up with negative result. Can it be regarded as valid? or should i take another test later?

Yes, you can be quite confident of a negative ELISA test two or three years after the last possible contact.

The HIV antibody test will identify more than 99% of infections within 13 weeks, and virtually all within 6 months. The chance of a negative test being wrong after two years is negligible.
