If I test positive for the initail HIV test, but don't actually have HIV do I get reported as having it?


The first test tells if you've been exposed, the next one tells you if you have it, I don't.

Not sure, but I would think (hope, actually) that if there is a possibility of false positive on the first test it would not be reported.

On the other hand, 'reporting' is simply a tally of the number of cases sent to the CDC; this is used to evaluate incidence, spread of the disease, risk to certain groups or locations, etc. These data are grouped demographically, but the actual names of patients are not included.

There isn't a record anywhere that specifically says *you* tested positive; at least, I don't think there is...
