Hiv test window frame?

when can you say you dont have hiv from risk. how long does it really take to show up on elisa

The window period for HIV is 3 months. HIV usually shows up 90% of the time after 30 days, 94-96% after 60 days and 99.6 after 90 days.

I fyou are concerned test asap and then retest at the 3 month time frame.

It is recommended you get tested twice. Try once about 2-8 weeks after your potential contact with the virus. That way, if you have the virus, you can get started on treatment right away. Because you are tested for the antibody for HIV and it can take a while to build up the antibodies, it is recommended to get tested again in 3-6 months. It is a little more rare that it takes 6 months for an accurate test, but it happens.

I think you can consider yourself free and clear if you test after 12 to 18 months of the time transmission may have occurred. If you're not sure when exactly you may have been exposed, pick the latest possible date and wait one year, then get tested. The testing clinic should be able to tell you for sure.
