HIV test at almost 2 months after exposure?

I have a friend who went to a Dr. and he got tested for HIV at about 12 weeks and he's all up in arms over being positive. He tells me that he's worrying all the time and that I've so far been the only person in his life who so far have been a positive influence (no pun intended) by not lying to him or anything like that. I've tried to help him as best as possible by giving him facts and trying to calm him down and tell him that he doesn't have it, even though a second opinion is necessary. So if there's anything anyone can give me to tell him to help ease his mind, please do so. I keep trying to reiterate to him that he'll be ok, because the story goes that he and his b/f at the time got drunk on this New Years Eve night and he gave his b/f a bj and he said he wasn't for sure if he got off or anything and he's worried he may have it. Thanks for any info!!!

I'm not totally sure I understand your writing. Did he test positive, or just worried about testing positive? The window period for HIV to test positive is 3 month now, if someone is HIV+ the will test positive 90% of the time with in the first month, 94-96% of the time after 2 months and 99.4% after 90 days. there is .04% chance of error.

IF the only sex he has had with his boyfriend is oral, that is a very low risk for contracting HIV. You either spit the fluid out, or if you swallow, the acid in your stomach will kill the virus.

Now if he did test positive, and it was a rapid test they need a confirmatory test, rapid test just is an Elisa test and will show if you have the antibodies for HIV, you then need a waserman test to confirm if someone is HIV+ or not. WIth the oral test there is a .04% chance of error, and I have had false positives before.

I do trainings for organizations to make sure they have the latest information on HIV and I also teach people how to do the HIV testing.

Prayer, thats the only thing I know besides med that work.

this site should be informative for you and your friend. you can live a long life with hiv. as long as it doesn't escalate into aids.

this is also another good site to look at.

The test for exposure to AIDS and contracting the disease is when the "antibodies" for the virus show up in the blood. Full blown AIDS is when the antibodies and virus shows up in the tissue.

It takes on average 6 month for the incubation for AIDS in humans. Some people are less, others as much as 18 months.

Your description of what happened and how cannot be taken as a method in which AIDS is contracted or not contracted.

AIDS is contracted when the Virus goes from one human to another. That can be by simple fluids exchange, blood exchange, contact of an infected person's tissue and about 10 other know ways.
