CDC wants HIV test for EVERYONE?

The guidelines for routine testing would apply to every American ages 13 to 64, according to the proposed plan by the U.S. Centers for Disease control and Prevention.

I personally think that is a wonderful idea. I am so sick of people spreading disease and claiming they didn't know when all you have to do is take a five minute test and give your permission. It really pisses me off.

As for people being concerned that they will not be cared for if they should test positive, I work with AIDS patients and most of them have advanced disease and are unable to work and all of the meds are paid for by you and me and our wonderful government. Fret no more. Just make sure they get tested so they will quit spreading this wretched disease.

I don't know...i have kinda conflicting views of this..with laws of privacy etc

Are they paying for it? If not, screw them.

Yes they do and I think it's a wonderful idea. 1 in 4 people with HIV don't even know they have it and are spreading it. I also think it removes the stigmata of having the test done. Did you know that right now you can be denied life insurance if you have an HIV test done? They consider the fact that you took the test means that you are involved in "high risk" activity and will not cover you. By making the test standard it will make people more comfortable with having it done.
Even if you've been in a long term relationship with no symptoms, it can take up to 7 years or longer for symptoms to show. I think it is a positive move on the CDC's part to curb the disease so that it doesn't reach epidemic proportions like it has in other parts of the world.

I think its a good idea. For those that have it, they can prevent spreading it around and can start suppressant treatment (or whatever they do).

For those that don't have it, the mandatory-ness of having it done shouldn't really be a bother.

The only thing I worry about is those w/HIV may not be covered by there insurances anymore, resulting in not getting proper treatment. That would be horrible.

Well, they're not called the Centers for Disease CONTROL AND PREVENTION for nothing. ;-)

I don't understand why people are upset at the idea. You're tested for STDs in many states before you can be issued a marriage license and you're tested for various conditions while pregnant so why not test for HIV, too? And it's not just STDs. If you were a teacher or health care worker in my state you'd have to have a TB test even if you had no risk factors.

I think that would be a good idea. Caught early, it lessens the chance of it being spread unintentionally like if someone didn't know they were infected.
