Who else has gone through this torture of having to wait for your HIV test results to come back?!?

2 weeks ago I was feeling brave and decided to go in and get an HIV test for peace of mind. I had an appointment to go in this coming Tuesday but because of a conflicting schedule I now have to wait a whole other week to get them! Let me say that the chances that I would actually come back positive are so,so,so slim, but this still isn't comforting to me and there's the "what-if" factor that I can't seem to stop running through my head. I can't shake the never-ending anxiety either. Any words of advice, encouragement, anything? I would gladly appreciate it.

First I commend you on having the test. I believe everyone who is sexually active should be tested. It's important! I had an HIV test done a few years ago to rule out it being a cause of a problem i was having. and like you it was a very slim chance that it would be positive... but you never know, right. I believe in being proactive! It was the worst 2 weeks of my life. When I called to get the results... they were negative... i busted out crying after I hung up the phone.

My advice to you, try calling to get your result. If that is possible. That way you don't have to wait. But if you can't, try to keep busy and try to relax. I know that is easier said than done, but try not to worry until there is a need. Like you said, you have a very slim chance of it being positive. try to focus on that and not the what if's.

Thanks so much for the support! After 3 long, long weeks of waiting, I got my NEGATIVE results yesterday. And even when I got to the doctor's office I had to wait another half hour. I thought I was going to go crazy! But all is good :) Thanks again! Report It

Congrats on taking the test. This is one of thoes times when no news is good news. Most Dr's in my area don't call if your test is negative.
