Can smoking marijuana cause a false positive hiv test??? |
A friend of mine told me today that he got a HIV test result back positive and asked me if smoking weed could generate a false positive as he has no symptoms and has always been healthy I have not found much on the matter so I thought I would ask here... what I had found so far is that the medicines they use for hiv generates false positives for marijuana use so I was wondering if that works both ways... thanks for any imput... OK... Just to reiterate from what I am getting here I am not sure of the test he got this from a plasma center he went to and has been told that they get a lot of false positives because the tests are sensitive I told him to get a retest but he is quite nerved and scared as you could figure anyhow what would cause a false positive if there were no possible way that he may have contracted HIV??? the same thing happened to me a few years ago. i went to a plasma center and was told the same thing, however a few days prior to that i had been to the dr. so i called them up to ask about it and they told me it was not true. do get tested for your own peace of mind. and weed has no affect on that it just get u high, if it is some FIRE! lol No, of course not. of course not! the HIV test actually checks for antibodies specific to HIV. there is no way that another condition or smoking marijuana could give a false positive. well, you wouldn't actually have any symptoms of HIV... it doesn't matter how healthy you are, HIV isn't what makes you sick, HIV makes way for AIDS which make you sick... I don't know about the exact interaction between marijuana and the test, but I wouldn't discount the validity of the test for these reasons... False positives have been seen in pregnant women, but since your friend is a "he," that cause seems doubtful. No, thc (marijuna) will not casue a false positive for the HIV virius. No, your friend has HIV. It is normal for an HIV + person not to show symptoms, because you only show symptoms when you have AIDS. No. Smoking marijuana would not create a false positive. It could take up to a decade before you start seeing any signs or symptoms of the virus. marijuana does not kill your white blood cell count therefore that wouldnt be a cause for a positive hiv test..although other things like and infection or maybe some other disease can be the reason...tell your "friend" wait a couple months then go back for another test...if it comes back positive again... then it must b...
