Can a clinic refuse giving you another hiv test 3 1/2 months after your last one?

I had an hiv test done at the end of May (form a guy I last saw in March). I would like to have another one done, for the guy I have recently been with cheated on me and I also caught a staph infection (which I believe was from him). I was with him three times (two being unprotected). My doctor said it was too soon and I couldn't have another one done yet. I don't understand this. Do they not care about your health or you as a person. I last saw this guy about a month ago. I know it could take up to 6 months, but I heard the sooner the better with testing. I think I'm ok, but also want to know for peace of mind. Why would they, and how could they deny you of this service? I don't know if it's a clinic policy, insurance thing, or if they feel there won't be accurate results. I heard when being sexually active (even when being safe), it's best to get tested every 3 months. What would you do in this case?

If it takes up to 6 months to show up, you will need to get another one anyway in a few months. If you take one now, you are wasting resources.

Just find a free clinic in your area the one i go to i can get tested every week if i wanted.

I dont think so. You have already been with someone new after you had your last one so introducing new partners puts you at risk for having the virus. I think they would retest you and anyway, the virus can take up to 1 year for it to become postive. You are not wrong for being concerned about your health, and the doctors and nurses are there to take care of you (at least that is what they are supposed to do.)

Why would they care about your health (or you), when you obviously don't? Why have unprotected sex with people and then have to run for an HIV test? That's stupid.

You're probably fine. Just wait the time they said and get tested. If you get tested now you are going to want to get tested in another 5 months anyway, right?

It sounds like normal policy to me. If you already had one test done and it showe negative you need to wait the appropriate amount of time to have another one done. I'm sure the doctor knows what the appropriate length is but if you really feel he is wrong go to another doctor or clinic.

You may be misunderstanding your doctor's reasons. If you take an HIV test too soon, it will likely be a negative test regardless whether you have HIV or not so you would have to get another HIV test 3 months later anyway.

BTW, there is no recommendation for sexually active people to get tested for HIV every 3 months.

A clinic can deny service for any reason as long as your life and/or limb are not in immediate danger and you are not currently in labor.

In your case, another HIV test so soon may well NOT be covered by your insurance.

If you are set on having an early test (it doesn't really make any sense to do this, but who am I to tell you how to spend your money), go to an Infectious Disease doc and pay for the test yourself.

Yes, insurance only covers so much. It is a way for insurance companies to weed out the idiots in the world that like to have unprotected sex.
