If you take an HIV test, how do the doctors do it? |
how long does it take to get the results? theres one of two ways that they can do it..either they draw blood from your arm, or they swab your mouth. They draw blood from your arm, its very unlikely you will get the results on the same day, they usually take a few weeks, there is no age limit for an HIV test. my dr. drew blood from my hand then I wait 30 min for my results. but it depends most dr. tell you before they do it. check this website out it has all the information about what your are looking for: http://www.hivtest.org/ A small amount of blood is drawn and tested for the HIV virus. You should begin getting tested as soon as you become sexually active, EVEN IF YOU USE CONDOMS! You should also be tested if you have any exposure to someone elses bodily fluids (ejaculation, saliva, BLOOD!) or if you have ever shared needles of ANY type with anyone (for drugs, piercings, tattoos, ect) Results are back usually within a working week, and from my experience "no news is good news" so if you you don't recieve a call right away don't get too worried. some clinics can do a test with a swab from inside your cheek too. you can wait in the office for your results because it takes less than 1/2 and hour. if it's positive you'll be given a second test to confirm. For me, it was a quick prick of my finger that took about 2 minutes to read. But different clinics use different procedures. You don't need to be any certain age to get an HIV test; if you're wondering about it, it's probably a good idea to go ahead and get one. You can get a free test at Planned Parenthood. Visit plannedparenthood.org to find a clinic near you. |
