Blood test and hiv infection?

is hiv test done before every blood donation? is it a necessary screening procedure? will a person only be allowed to donate after the test?

The testing is not done before the blood is donated, it is done on the blood after it has been drawn, after the person has left the donation site. Blood banks do not use rapid testing methods, but Elisa's that take hours to run.

When you go to donate blood they test the blood. If they find anything wrong with your blood they will call you.

HIV is one of the necessary screening procedures for all blood donations, They ask you questions on certain things to try and find if you are in the high risk group. Then they take the blood it is tested before it goes to the blood bank, if any thing found you will be notified.
If you think you have been exposed to HIV or an STD then tell them as they will find out or get a blood test done first to check.
