How to interpret HIV test result? |
I think this is a ELISA test result (being the first test conducted). The report says any figure below 1.0 is negative; and the report reads (-)0.54. Does this mean "HIV negative"? Wouldn't negative = 0? What significance does the 0.54 hold? Thanks. The HIV ELISA test, like almost all biochemical tests (and most other types of tests), produces a color reaction. Any reaction result with a value less than 1.0 is considered negative, and a value of 1.0 to 2 or so would be considered very weakly positive. Values of 3 to 6 are more common for people who are HIV seropositive. 0.54 is less than 1.0, so,therefore, the result would be negative. Hi. Elisa test is one of the accurate tests that is being performed to detect HIV. Hi for you information, 0 is neither negative or positive. So isn't is better that the value is -0.54 rather than 0. Moreover 0 is a greater value -0.54. Hope you have learnt some maths and science. If you are still in doubt, you can consult your physician or do a confirmation test. ALL THE BEST |
