Afraid of HIV test.?

cud some one help me out there am afraid of doin HIV test, what happens shud i test positive? am tormented.

Hi there,

Knowing is better than not knowing. If a person does have HIV and they do not know it, eventually they will find out often after they get really really sick. In the mean time, many people seem to believe that if they don't have HIV then it's ok to not use a condom because "if the other person had it they would tell me, right?" and in the process could be infecting many many unknowing and unwilling people.

Now, please try to stay calm. HIV is not an easy virus to catch. From the studies I've read as well as what my doctor has told me, HIV infection, even though it only needs one exposure, often is the result of multiple exposures. Considering how much it appears to be bothering you, your best bet is to go get tested at least 13 weeks after your last potential exposure for an accurate result; any sooner may result in an unclear result or a false negative.

If a person is found to have been infected, having HIV is not the same death sentence as it was in the early days of the epidemic. Medical treatments have done wonders for prolonging life and keeping the virus in check. Yes, I'll admit, having HIV is not a walk in the park but frankly, there are worse things out there and the flesh eating disease is only the first one that comes to me mind!

Cheers.

don't be afraid of it. it is worse not knowing. there are treatments to keep HIV under control. the sooner you find out, the faster you can get help. there are also lots of counseling services available.

These days, the HIV test's answer can be given to you, almost right away. People used to have to wait days to find the results. This, really makes it a lot easier to have done.
It is a LOT easier on people to find out the results, quickly, than to need to wait and wait. It really seemed as if it took forever.
After you get your results, two things can happen. If you do not have HIV, you will feel really good! If you DO have HIV, you will be set up for counseling, to explain exactly what this means to you. You will be asked to give names of people you have had sex with, as a precaution for them. This is a good thing, if you are HIV positive. (The more it is a secret, the more HIV that will happen to people, all over the world). It would seem to me, that knowing if you do or do not have HIV is something we should really be grateful to learn. How would you feel if we could not find out, at all?
