Faulty HIV test?

Just Wondering...If someone is exposed to HIV- and they are tested for it, isn't it still possible to test negative for a period of time, when in actuality, the person really is carrying the virus?

yes. sometimes it can take up to 6 months after the contact with HIV to show up as positive thats why you always here how they recommend getting a 2nd test done 6 months after your first test was done!! so wait 6 months and have a new one done just to be extra sure

Yes it is.But most of the people tha thave HIV test positive.
See you dont really look for hte virus, you look for antigens of it... sort of like, fishing for the immune respnse of the body.
So if the virus is in your body, an answer will take place, and it will most likely be picked up by the test.

Remember, sometims you might get false positives (and these are more common)
That is why you should test again after 6 months or so.

It's possible to get a false negative but there fewer false negs in a high prevalence population than in a low prevelance one. That's why 6 month retesting is recommended.

Thats why people get several opinions. These days you have to 'coz doctors give you all kinds of crap.
