HIV Test Results...?

Hello

I did an HIV test yesterday at a medical lab and the result was negative. The S/co ratio in the result read 0.42. This freaked me out coz I did the test before at the same lab and the result was 0.29 so this increase in the result is scaring me...The doctor says that since the value is less than 1 then it is ok...but I cant stop thinking about the increase of this value...could it be that I am seroconverting ?

Scared,

Please stop worrying. HIV is NOT an easy virus to catch. No you are not seroconverting. Stop asking the same question because the answers won't change. As long as your HIV test was done 13 weeks after your last possible exposure your negative result is reliable and conclusive. If you did not wait the 13 weeks, your negative result is encouraging but not conclusive; you will need to retest at the appropiate time. ANYTHING else is guesswork, plain and simple. Numbers do not mean a thing; symptoms do not mean a thing. Only the presence of antibodies at least 13 weeks after exposure, confirmed with a Western Blot screening will produce a diagnosis of HIV+. If you can not accept your doctor's opinion and you seem to not accept what other people have been telling you, please seek professional councelling to discuss your irrational fears. Stop worrying about something you don't have. Celebrate your HIV- status and get on with your life!

Cheers.

no u dont have it then
