Has anyone ever done the Rapid HIV test before? |
I have asked this before but didn't really get a clear answer. I recently tested for HIV (Rapid HIV Blood test-finger prick) at a Planned Parent hood. It was negative Thank GOD but I guess my mind started wondering....do these tests test for both HIV 1 and 2? Should I even be concerned about this? I have heard there are different strands of HIV...how does the test know what strand to test for? Please explain so I can STOP WONDERING! Hello!! I have never had a Rapid HIV test done before. I have had, however, the antibody blood test performed. most at home or "rapid" HIV tests only detect HIV 1. a negative test means your good to go. HIV 2 is very rare and is found in the US very rarely-never. i had two rapid test. the first one was after i was told some misinformation about an ex-partner having hiv. the first one was a finger prick (it came back neg). the nurse told me it as accurate as the elisa test. as for the hiv-2 thing, you have a better chance of winning the lotto than catching that in the states its usu. found only in the parts of africa. if u got an orasue/quick it checks for both hiv-1/2 its done by putting blood in a solution and mixing the test stick in there and waiting 20 min for results. or the unigold one also uses blood. the blood and a sol is mixed in a rectangular testing unit and it takes 10 min. i def wouldnt give this to much thought. i got caught up in the what ifs and i turned into a hypochondriac and started becoming paranoid. im working through it with consueling, but id hate for you to go through that. I once heard that there is a possibility of getting tested for HIV and since it only detects anti-body that you would have to be tested in 3 months to be SURE... otherwise ... you could still be positive and not know it. Basically, go 3 months after the 1st test to be sure of your results. Good Luck... |
