How is an HIV test done? Is HIV AIDS?

i want to go for an HIV test. I had unprotected sex once with a guy who to put it bluntly was a selfish prat who took the condom off during sex(not my idea) and later i found out he had sex with women in africa(on a holiday safari thing), i presume unprotected. I have had fevers, chest infections, colds, the flu, aches, pains, cant eat since at times and i feel low. i am so scared i will have it. How is the test done? Is it accurate? whats the idfference between hiv and aids? I went to a family planning clinic but the woman looked me up and down threw condoms at me and told me to think what i was doing next time. I felt so humiliated. She told me to bring my partner with me next time but i felt even more ashamed cos hes out my life now so i look like a ho even though i have had sex with 2 pple my whole life. Do i need to tell everone if i have HIV in case i can give it to them?

What is HIV?
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. HIV disease is a serious
illness that harms the immune system-the body鈥檚 ability to fight off infection.
You can be infected with HIV and not know it. Years can go by before you have any symptoms, yet you are still
able to pass HIV on to others.

What is AIDS?
AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is the last stage of the HIV disease.
Recent advances in medical care have resulted in preventing or delaying the onset of AIDS. It鈥檚 important to
see a health care provider so that you can begin treatment as early as possible. Anyone who has HIV infection,
whether sick or without symptoms, can still transmit the virus to others.

If your test is positive, this means that your body is carrying HIV antibodies. It does not mean that you have
AIDS. It means you have been infected with the virus and your body has developed a reaction (antibodies.) It
means that if you have unprotected sex or share unclean needles, you can give HIV to the other person, which
may put that person in great risk.

my heartgoes out to you...yes the hiv test is very accurate...what makes it even more accurate is your timing of getting tested...you should get your first test 3 months after you have had sex with someone..this is because hiv is a virus not a bacteria so it will take a while to be found in your system....after this first test...you should wait 6 months after the first test to get retested....this is because the virus can remain undetected for this long before and chances of it being detected is increased if yu get it done in this time frame...

let me appoliize for the poor behaivor of the health care person who dealt with you...as a health care professional myself i cannot see myself behaving in such a manner towars anyone...continue to be strong

An HIV test is done by drawing blood. It takes a few days or more for results. Yes the results are usually accurate. Even if you get a negative you may want to retest in 6 months and ever year to be sure.
HIV is the early stages of AIDS. You can stay HIV positive for up to 10 years without having AIDS. However you can still give it to people so you must let them know.
HIV usually take a few months to start showing symptoms. Usually it starts with a general ill feeling.
Try to relax till you know for sure. I would not have sex till I knew for sure and if you do please inform your partner.
You can look up additional information on www.webmd.com or google HIV/AIDs.

I dont know how the test is done, but I can tell you that AIDS is caused by HIV (virus) so yes, it is the same thing. Just get a test fast, no matter what its like. You can take some medicine which will make you live longer, but it wont cure the disease..of course it it comes back positive

best of luck!

They take a sample of your blood and they look for antibodies that indicate the presence of the Human Immune Deficiency Virus. Trust me i am on a college course that deals with infections.

Well I take an ABSTINENCE class and my teacher Mr. Russel and he told me that HIV is the first stage of AIDS. So you can say that they are the same!
