Hiv blood test keeps coming inconclusive?

I have been in monogamous straight relationship for 15 years. Prior to, I was in two straight relationships. I had blood work done in a routine physical in June of 2007, including HIV test and all STD's. My test came back inconclusive, which the doctor explained USUALLY meant negative, but needed a second test to make sure. The second one, (6 weeks later) came back inconclusive. I had another done immediatly, same result. (Blood work showed the only thing wrong is bit higher cholestral count) I retested 1 month ago just for peice of mind, innconclusive again. Doctor says not to worry, I've called hotlines and they said same thing. I'm confused why I dont' get a "negative", and IF I was infected somehow, how long does it take to show a definate yes? I am very confused on all of this, and it's causing me alot of anxiety, severe anxiety in fact.

used two different labs...

Yes i went trough this.. but i think by hearing doctors say that u can hiv an the hiv testing cant pick it up.. the way u can find out for sure if u have hiv/stds is by another hiv test that is more accurate than the regular one...

No aids

HAVE YOUR BLOOD SENT TO ANOTHER LAB.

Sorry, I have no answer for you but wanted to wish you luck....sounds strange though!

Its okay to be stressed about it i would be too, but i think you should go to another doctor

inconclusive means that one they couldnt find anything. two make sure you are going to a lab tech that knows what tubes to draw in. labcorp sucks they **** up all the time with blood work

Don't really have an answer for your Q, but I do wanna say Good Luck.

Hey, if you've been in a straight monogamous relationship for 15 years and prior to that you were in two straight relationships (you didn't say for how long), they why are you now getting blood work for any STDs? Especially for HIV?

Bloodwork for STDs including HIV are not normally done as part of a routine physical.

You will have to ask your doctor what exactly is meant by that lab's definition of "inconclusive" as well as the the term "usually negative". There's something here that isn't quite right. You are going to a lot of trouble for someone who's been monogamous for 15 years.

Go to Ask.com, or any search engine and type in HIV. The net is full of all the information you could possibly want on the subject including incubation periods, latency periods, etc.

I am an RN

Your T cell count is questionable but this does not mean that you have contracted the Human Immunodefiency Virus...Have you ever contracted any type of STD?? Was this the Western Blot test....? And how long were you in a incubation period.. You are testing too quickly. Remain abstinate for 6 months and then retest.

I think the virus can "hide" for up to six months, I guess because you are under that it comes up that way. The test is for the anti-body your body makes, if they dont see them you are negative meaning ok

Contact an HIV specialist. There are more sensitive tests than the ones typically used which will be able to determine once and for all if you are HIV positive.

I know nothing about these tests, so can`t help you in that area, but I do think that you have the right to see a suitably qualified doctor, who can sort this out for you. It is very unfair to expect you just to` carry on as normal`, when no one has given you a conclusive result or satisfactory answers to your questions. In my opinion, you have had enough tests for them to tell you `one way or the other`. Make an appointment with your doctor and insist on a complete diagnosis.

I would suggest that you ask that a western blot be done. That is the specific HIV conclusive test. Some people I know have had inclusive tests and for peace of mind we do a blood draw and have the western blot done.

If you were HIV+ it would have shown up by now.

Good Luck

Well, this is a concerning subject, so although you have every right to be worried, I would like to caution you that worrying yourself emotionally can make you actually feel physically sick.

I am uncertain why they come up with "inconclusive," but perhaps you should attempt getting tested at a complimentary place such as planned parenthood...

... if it still comes up inconclusive, I would try not to worry so much, and just enjoy life to the maximum.

I was told by a doctor that they don't like to test unless you are a high risk due to the high # of false positives.
They didn't want to test me until I filled out a long anti liability form.
Also HIV is a crock.
Are you chronically sick or something?
Then don't worry about it.

My doc just told me the same thing and now I am in panic mode. I don't lead a promiscuous life, but my exwife cheated on me, but that was 4 years ago when I was married. I tested perfect in cholesterol and other health levels and negative for every other STD, however the HIV is inconclusive..........
How often does this happen?? I think Labcorp did my test as well and now I am just shaking and feeling like the worlds ending...
I have to go to a specialist next week...joy.....
