About HIV Test Window Period? |
Hi, I was just pretty worried about HIV, I have to acknowledge that in the past (2003 specially), I had several sexual partners, however I always used a condom, but I started to develop symptons of anxiety, I've been tested for HIV several times, my last ELISA was back in January and I told the doctor that I didn't have any previous sexual encounter during the whole 2006, the result of my HIV ELISA test was negative, Do you think I can stop thinking about it? thanks There is a 3 month window for someone to be infected with HIV and develop the antibodies that give a positive test result. So, if you had unprotected sex in the 3 months prior to your last test, you should be retested. Otherwise, stop worrying. I agree with Jen G. It takes at least 30 days (in rare cases 3 months and in even rarer cases 6 months) for the HIV virus to show up on the test. I would say test after that 30 days and again after the 6 month mark to ensure 100% accuracy. Remember, any unprotected sexual activity during that time start the timeline over if you are looking for 100% accuracy. If you have not had sex at all in 2006/07 and you tested in January, the test should be accurate for you, if this is all true then don't worry. |
