New HIV test detects HIV after only 72 hours?

Ok I was hesitant about having an HIV test done a week after I have had contact with someone. My first sexual contact with them was a month ago and my last was a week prior to be tested. The guy told me on the phone this new HIV test they have can detect HIV after just 72 hours to exposure? Is that true or was the guy just trying to snowball me. The test I got tested an array of STD's including HIV and cost $450. I have got the feeling I was robbed because everything I have been reading online tells me I need to wait at least 3 months before HIV is detectable.

The guy I talked to was a representive from the testing center. He told me they can detect HIV RNA/DNA in the blood up to a week after initial infection.

Also there now is an antigen test that tests for the protein p24. This protein is high 1-3 weeks after inital exposure. So if they find a high supply of this protien in the blood their is a very good chance that person has been infected with HIV.

They have some test now that increases sensitivity and can detect HIV antibodies in as little as 12 days after exposure.

Again this was very expensive testing I had done that you wouldn't find at your local free clinic. It cost me about $450.

My guy and me went and got tested a few weeks ago at a place called Hope Health. I wonder if there is location such as this in your area. It is an AIDS clinic, but they give FREE cotton swap test. These are test don't require any blood to be drawn....and you get the results within 20 minutes. Basically you go in, swap your mouth....and while filling out paperwork the test is going. Kind of like a pregnancy test...

There is no such thing as a 72 hour HIV test. When Cesar and me got our results he told us both that we are free from HIV from the time we were born until three months prior to the test. HIV is a slow producing virus that CAN take up to years to detect. AND sometimes....you can have HIV and it never be detected because the (I can't remember the damn name of the thing that the test detects in your blood) number of indicators gets so low it isn't detected. It doesn't mean that you DON'T have HIV, but it just isn't progressing. BUT....you must wait at least 3 months.

Your best bet....like I just posted on another question moments before....have extremely safe sex for a good three months...and make sure no bodily fluids are transferred....and get tested!

Anyway....why were you and this guy talking about HIV anyway? Is he telling you this because he is worried? You might want to rethink that situation.....that seems like a red flag! Unless...it was just harmless conversation.

Hi
There is a test called NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) that detects and measures HIV RNA viral load. Upon infection, our body is not prepared for the HIV invasion. Hence, the HIV replicates at the highest rate leading to the highest number of virus particles in your body. Report It

ELISA and western blot test will show negative (seronegative) because our body has not produced antibody to fight against HIV. Report It

It will usually take up to 1 month or more for the antibody to be produced and detected by ELISA and western blot test (commonly used test for HIV1/2). These tests which will show negative result when you are in seroconversion period (window period). Report It

NAAT is a very expensive test and is rarely used for commercial purpose. The price you pay $450 is justified and i believe it is for NAAT that will detect HIV viral load immediately without having to wait for seroconversion. Report It

I havnt heard of anything like that.
if there is that would be amazing
all i know of is the 3 months because HIV is a slow reacting virus when it comes to reproducing! i hope there is a 72 hour test that would help so many people! and reduce infections!
