Easy my mind about hiv transmission?

The other day I took my son to hockey practice. As we walked down the hallway to the dressing room I saw 3 drops of fresh blood. After about 10 minutes my son layed down on the ground to get his gear on. If someone tracked that blood into the dressing room and my son touched it then touched his mouth or eye or something could hiv be transimitted that way?? I know it sounds crazy but I cant stop thinking about it!!!

No. He cannot get HIV from the scenario you described. Because:

1) In the 25 years of this epidemy, there has been no reported cases of HIV transmission this way and your son is not going to be the first one. You need to move on. This is really a NO RISK exposure.

2) Most people do not have HIV, specially in north america

3) HIV is a very fragile virus and cannot stay alive for a long time outside the host

In medicine, everything is possible. But the chance of contracting HIV from the incident that you describe is probably 1000,000 times lower than getting hit by a lightening in the next 24 hours. MOVE ON and do not even think about it. If you find yourself struggling with this problem and cannot accept this reassurance, you should seek help from a therapist. Not to critisize, but out of compassion.

As, said; very unlikely.

First of all, relatively few people actually have HIV!

Furthermore, the rather fragile virus is quickly destroyed once it leaves the body and comes into contact with oxygen.

You have nothing to worry about.

No. Once HIV is outside the body, exposed to air, it dies within a few minutes. Don't worry.

I mean it's possible, but very very very extremely unlikely! I wouldn't worry about it.

As I have some hiv friends on pozcupid.com , I know it's possible.
