So what about African wives who only sleep with their husbands, but still get AIDS? And their children?

Certain Christians (especially the RCC) somehow think it's a bad idea to distribute condoms in AIDS-ravaged Africa because their religious agenda trumps common sense. They say 'no sex, no STDs'.

Well, married men sometimes go to prostitutes or cheat with other women, get AIDS and pass it along to their faithful wives - and unborn children.

These women do exactly what they are SUPPOSED to do, stay faithful and procreate with their husbands, yet they still get AIDS. And the babies are born without a fighting chance.

Since people can only control the abstinence of one's self (and if you're a fetus, you have no say), how is it a good idea to not give out condoms, which if used correctly prevent 90% of all HIV transmissions?

Why should these women and babies suffer? They are not the one's being promiscuous. Do the women and babies deserve to suffer because the husband screws a woman with HIV?

Chelle Belle: things are different in Africa and The prostitutes and Johns wearing condoms would help.

Great Answers: They can not distribute it, but the RCC tells married couples it is "wrong" to use condoms. That's messed up - it's better to get HIV than wear condoms?

Hmm the problem is most people dont think that they should have to use condoms with thier spouse. I mean they are married.

great question, a star for you!

The RCC and others have a right not to distrubute condoms in Africa
Just like you or me has a right to distribute them

It is not the husband doing it. While he is working the wife is the one screwing around. Just the same as here. Until you find a way to prevent women from being unfaithful there will always be spreading of diseases.

You assume that it is what happens that is important and defines your life.

Your choices define your life no matter what happens.

Maybe all they need is a teddy bear.

The use of the condom isn't the issue. Condoms shouldn't be distributed to teenagers and thus encouraging them to have sex or communicating to them they don't have the moral fiber to abstain.

Distribution to a married couple...that is different.

But think about this, what person who has been infected would chance their spouse getting hiv from them?

Where do morals come in to play.

Because religion is about controlling the masses, not their welfare.

Actually most AIDS in Africa is spread through rape. There is a common misconception that to have sex with a virgin will cure one of AIDS, these people would not wear a condom anyway. Not to mention war (particularly in east Africa) reape is a weapon of war, again these people would not use condoms.

While you are correct in saying it is stupid not to just tell everyone to wear condoms you are incorrect in saying this will stop the problem in Africa. Education is the key there (as it is everywhere). You also fail to mention that The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is the single largest contributor to AIDS awareness funding AND that Cathoic hospitals supply over 1/3 of all AIDS medications in the world free of charge.

Also you fail to mention the Vatican has eased it's restrictions on condomns among married couples to use in the prevention of the spread of AIDS.In fact an official document telling married couples to use condoms to prevent the spread of AIDS is circulating the Vatican, read about it here: http://nationalcatholicreporter.org/upda...

But it sounds less self-righteous if you tell the actual truth.

It still comes back to faithfulness. It is still the lack of faithfulness that spreads Aids.

While I agree with you that it would be a good idea to hand out condoms how likely is it the men would use them? It's such a sad situation. Ok.......yes give out the condoms and hopefully the men would use them.

Religion needs to get it's head out of the sand and make contraceptives available.

The RCC lives in the dark ages. The sooner others take over here, on this subject, the better.
