Can HIV be present in saliva or sputum? What are the chances of spread of HIV thru saliva or sputum? Specifics

HIV/AIDS Modes of Transmission
Oral contact
Specific Risk factors
High risk behaviors
Prevention?

The tendency of AIDS to be contacted via kissing is relatively low, however the tendency of getting infected might increase greatly if one of the persons has soar (wounds) in the mouth, soars might be sometimes very small and perhaps unnoticed.

Ever since 1981(when aids first broke out) there has been only one documented case of HIV transmitted through kissing. More so, the virus does not survive for very long outside the human body meaning it is very unlikely you could catch it of a sneeze, holding hands or using the same cutlery. It is neither air-borne nor water borne.

There is currently no vaccine or cure for HIV or AIDS. The only known method of prevention is avoiding exposure to the virus. However, an antiretroviral treatment, known as post-exposure prophylaxis is believed to reduce the risk of infection if begun directly after exposure.

I work in EMS so I've been through several calss on this. The risk of transmitting HIV through spit and sputum is very very low. I remember the instuctor telling a gross story that if you were to drink a gallon of spit it would still be low. BUT------it is highly contagious if threre is blood to blood contact or thru sexual intercourse. No that being said if there is blood in the sputum or spit either from the lungs or a sore in the mouth then yes it can be transmitted.

Saliva鈥攊s NOT considered to be infectious.......The only time saliva would pose a risk would be if it had blood present in it..... There are no documented cases of HIV transmission through saliva........ There is a protein in the mouth that attaches itself to the surface of blood cells and blocks infection by HIV that appears to be present in the mucous membrane in the mouth at a level sufficient enough to reduce the concentration of HIV in saliva to non-infectious levels.

Hi

I rem during a course, the instructor told mi tat for saliva or sputum to be transmitted, you have to drink at least 8 GALLONS.!!!!!!!!! of it.

HIV modes of transmission is by oral contact if there is an open wound in the mouth.

The highest risk is by sexual intercourse. Though using condom may protect one from getting HIV, It does not really prevent it.
