Can somebody explain what vertical transmission of HIV is?

Going on elective to Jo Burg need to clue up on HIV

Vertical transmission means a direct transmission from mother to child.

However, a child will not necessarily get infected through birth, he can be free from infection at birth but get infected later if he is breast-fed which is why breastfeeding is contra-indicated for HIV+ mothers.

Hope this helps :)

Spread From Mother to Child, Specifically During Birth, With Drugs Available Today, this Transmission Can Be Greatly Cut, Note this Transmission is Unidirectional.
