I think you have misinterpreted the issue at hand. Upon reading the news from the link you have provided, the synopsis, and perhaps the bottom line of what the researchers/scientists believe, is that individuals in Africa who already have an HIV infection are more likely to be more sick when struck with malaria--this has nothing to do with HIV transmission AT ALL!

Primarily, malaria is a disease wherein the etiologic agent is a parasitic protozoan--Plasmodium falciparum. This species has a number of biotypes, but human malarial carrier is one of the biotypes of that organism. Not once did I read in the news that malaria spreads HIV, as what you speculate in the form of a question.

Since HIV, such as AIDS, is considered as an autoimmune disease in some ways, the disease itself causes the immune system to weaken. A body with a weakened immune system, in turn, is like a buffet restaurant welcoming hungry people, in essence the body is more likely to get OTHER diseases--like bacterial or parasitic infections, as some examples--because the immune system is not strong enough to fend off foreign agents. In this case, human malarial disease and its effects become more pronounced in people with HIV whose immune systems are weakened. Such is the main point of the news, and nothing about malaria being an agent of HIV transmission.

The mosquito MIGHT transmit HIV through its proboscis, but NOT the parasitic protozoan.
